Race Report - Proctor Cycling Classic - 6/29/08
Four riders represented ISCorp at the 2008 Proctor Cycling Classic in Peoria, IL: Kyle Jacobson, Kip Spaude, Matthew Busche, and in his debut Cat 1/2's race, Brian Rach.
A hole shot isn't typically a term used in road racing, but that's exactly how Kip started the race, with an attack straight off the line. After getting brought back within the first lap, Kyle immediately countered, and began what would be the winning break. After shelling his other break companions, a strong group containing Busche, Jeff Schroetlin (ABD Gear Grinder), Steven Howard (Bissell), and Sean Walker (Bikes To You).
The break floated at 15 seconds for more than half of the race, until the field finally cracked, and the gap ballooned. Not wanting to lap the field because they had the numbers in the break, Kyle and Busche held the break at a safe distance behind the field.
Crossing the finish line with one lap to go, the break began looking at each other, and Busche placed a perfectly timed attack that wouldn't be brought back. Kyle finished with a solid 3rd place, finishing just behind Steven Howard in the sprint for 2nd. |
