| This went much better than last week, in part probably because of having been there last week (and having gone hard again on Wednesday). It was warmer too, by a lot (probaby low 70s) and not as windy. Probably around 40 guys on the line, including eight IS-Corp: Chris, Billy, Keith, Jeff, Lowell, me, and two guys I didn’t know (Bill King and Joe Shanahan). We were active at the front almost the whole way through (an hour and two laps), and I was able to help, either by giving guys who were dropping back through the pack a little push (3x) or by chasing stuff down. Once I was in the beginning of a break, but I just followed wheels, and we barely lasted one lap. Toward the end, I rode tempo for a lap-and-a-half chasing a guy who went off on his own. In the final lap, when it slowed down just before the “hill” (we went clock-wise this week), I went to the front again, thinking I’d ride tempo for as long as I could. This time I only lasted 100-200 meters. I guess I left just about everything I had on the course, also finishing slightly off the back. We had Keith in the break and he got fifth. Afterwards, we were all pretty animated, talking about how we’re almost at the point where we can really control what happens in these races. |
